Protecting Your Haven

Welcome to our Home Insurance Hub! Whether you’re a homeowner, renter, or condo dweller, understanding home insurance is crucial. We’re here to guide you through the ins and outs of this essential coverage. Let’s dive in.

What Is Home Insurance?

Home insurance is your safety net, shielding your most significant investment: your home. It provides financial protection against unexpected events, ensuring you’re not left stranded when disaster strikes. Here’s what it covers:

01

Dwelling Coverage

This protects your home’s structure, including walls, floors, windows, and the roof. If a storm damages your roof or a fire destroys your kitchen, dwelling coverage steps in.

02

Personal Property Coverage

Your belongings matter! This coverage compensates you for stolen or damaged items, from furniture to electronics.

03

Loss of Use Coverage

Imagine your home becomes uninhabitable due to a covered event (say, a fire). Loss-of-use coverage pays for temporary living expenses while your home gets back on its feet.

04

Liability Coverage

Accidents happen. If someone gets hurt on your property, or you accidentally damage their belongings, liability coverage has your back.

05

Medical Payments Coverage

If a guest gets injured at your place, this coverage pays their medical bills.

06

Other Structures Coverage

Beyond your home, it covers detached structures like garages, sheds, or fences.

Types of Home Insurance Policies

Understanding the different types of home insurance policies is crucial for homeowners. Each type of policy caters to a specific set of needs and property types. Here are the most common types of home insurance policies:

HO-1 Basic Form

HO-1 insurance is the most bare-bones type of homeowners insurance that only protects your home against 10 types of loss. It covers your dwelling against 10 named perils, including fire, smoke, windstorms, and theft. However, HO-1 policies do not provide coverage for personal property or personal liability.

HO-2 Broad Form

An HO-2 policy offers more coverage than an HO-1 policy. It offers dwelling coverage at replacement cost value or actual cash value against all 16 named perils. It also provides coverage for personal belongings, the insured party’s liability, other parties’ medical expenses, or coverage for accommodations if the home becomes uninhabitable.

HO-3 Special Form

HO-3 insurance is the most common type of home insurance policy. It offers broader coverage than the HO-2. It provides coverage for your home’s structure, contents, liability, medical payments, and additional living expenses. Nevertheless, normal wear and tear, damage from earthquakes, and flooding are not covered.

HO-4 Contents Broad Form

The HO-4 policy is specifically for tenants and is often referred to as renters insurance. An HO-4 policy provides coverage for your personal possessions if they were to be damaged by a covered peril. It also offers liability coverage in case your dog bites someone or a guest gets hurt in your home.

HO-5 Comprehensive Form

An HO-5 policy is a type of homeowners insurance that offers broader coverage and additional perks on top of basic homeowners’ insurance. HO-5 policyholders also have open-peril coverage, which means that your home and belongings are protected against all events except those excluded in your policy.

HO-6 Condo Insurance

The HO-6 policy is designed for condo owners. This policy provides coverage for your home and other structures on an open-perils basis, while your personal property is covered on a named perils’ basis. It also provides coverage for personal liability and loss assessments issued by your condo association.

HO-7 Mobile Home Form

An HO-7 policy provides coverage for the mobile home on an open peril basis. This means the mobile home is covered for all perils that are not specifically excluded in the contract.

HO-8 Older Home Form

The HO-8 policy is a special type of homeowners insurance for older, historic homes that don’t meet the coverage requirements of a standard home insurance policy.
